Coordinates the management of the Huntsville Hospital Infection Control program. Investigates and monitors known or potential sources of suspected infections in order to determine source and ensure control. Knows standard methods and criteria for identifying Healthcare Associated infections. Provides related education to staff. Reviews sterilization and disinfection techniques and recommends changes as necessary.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
Education: Require one of the following: BS degree in Nursing, Medical Technology, or Public Health/Epidemiology. Require current license or registration certification as a Registered Nurse or Medical Technologist. Prefer national certification in Infection Control with ability to maintain re-certification as required. Will accept applicant without certification but certification must be obtained within three years of hire to position (can sit for exam after 2 years in role).
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years experience in medical/surgical patient care or laboratory work as appropriate.
Previous teaching experience with ability to teach hospital and medical staff. Working knowledge
of CDC, JC, OSHA, and CMS requirements helpful. Two years experience as ICP preferred (with CIC certification).
Additional Skills/Abilities:
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MedMined, and other data collection/display software. Detail oriented with good organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to multi-task and become skilled member of Mock Survey Team. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with ability to develop coursework and teach hospital and medical staff.
